Parabel has developed a proprietary growth system that allows the plants to thrive so that harvest takes place every day. For industries looking to secure both supply and price, this is an extremely welcome factor.
Scalable growth system
Parabel’s growth system is highly scalable. It’s designed to be modular for optimum flexibility. The time from seeding to first harvest is 3 weeks and from then on harvest takes place every day. This means that supply can be expanded quickly to meet larger orders.
Grown in aqua farms and harvested every day, LENTEIN® has been described as both carbon neutral and a complete food source. Incredibly, 95% of the water used to produce LENTEIN® is recycled. The crop doubles in mass every day, the system is scalable and the technology can be implemented around the globe. Through the introduction of LENTEIN® as a food source, we are able to take better care of the planet we inhabit.
LENTEIN® is produced in an aquafarm where 95% of the required water gets recycled and has been described as carbon neutral.
LENTEIN® is made from water lentils which is the fastest-growing crop on earth and doubles in biomass every day. This leads to daily harvests and fresh, minimally processed ingredients that go straight from farm to table in 30 minutes.
The protein areal productivity of water lentils is 10x higher than soy and the crop doesn’t need arable land. This is important as we have to feed more and more people on the planet and there’s no arable land left.
LENTEIN® and Sustainability
Water lentils are indigenous non-GMO; not disruptive to local ecosystems
The growth systems retain all nutrients and rainwater
No leaching of nutrients into nearby areas
Annually water neutral
Processing systems recycle extracted water and solids – no waste
Water lentils consume atmospheric CO2
No arable land required
LENTEIN® and the Water Lentil
Water lentils are a known food source in South East Asia and go by the name of Khai nam (water eggs) and Shobuj Shona (green gold). It’s also known as lentilles d’eau and lenteja de agua. The Latin name is Lemnaceae, and some call it duckweed.
Lemnaceae are small, free-floating, aquatic plants that thrive in warm conditions.
Parabel’s growth media and the crop are continuously monitored for quality and composition, and our water lentils have high levels of the primary nutrients such as protein and Omega 3.
Our growth systems allow for very high growth rates and daily harvests.
Small Plant - Big Impact!
Agriculture uses 70% of the world’s fresh water supply, and by 2030, the total demand for fresh water will exceed supply by 40%. To sustain the growing population, this means we need to rethink what we eat.
